Academic Advising
Registration Advising Drop-Ins
Quickest way to speak to an advisor!
We are offering Zoom Drop-In Advising Monday-Friday 1:00 to 4:00 pm here.
These are quick meetings to go over your spring semester schedule or to address other time-sensitive questions (long-term planning appointments will resume in mid-November).
Zoom drop-ins are first come, first serve. If you are not let into the meeting right away, it means all advisors are currently with a student and will see you as soon as they are able to.
To minimize wait times, we recommend that you review the registration preparation guidelines linked here prior to coming to drop-ins.
If you are unable to connect with an advisor via walk-in's, you are also welcome to visit the College of Liberal Arts Student Division advisors for academic advising: https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/undergraduate-students/student-division/
Fall Break Advising Hours
The Economics Advising Office is operating remotely from November 20-22. The University will be closed on November 23 and 24. We will reopen on Monday, November 27 at 9 am.
Questions? Email ecoadvisors@austin.utexas.edu.
Q-Drop Deadline - October 23rd
The deadline to q-drop, make pass/fail changes, and withdraw from all classes for the Fall 2023 term is 5 p.m. Monday, October 23. Please read the above hyperlinked policies carefully and if you are considering any of these actions, act soon and as early in the day as possible to minimize wait times.
If you wish to make any of the above registration changes, you must visit GEB 2.200 or log into the Student Division chat platform to begin the process before the deadline. If initiating via chat, please be prepared to meet with a Student Division advisor via Zoom on a drop-in basis to complete the request.
One-Time Exception Drop Deadline - December 4, 2023
Students may drop a single class or withdrawal from the university after the mid-semester deadline using the One-Time-Exception (OTE).
OTEs must be initiated by December 4, 2023 at 5 pm or before a final grade is posted - whichever is earlier.
A student must request the OTE from a Liberal Arts Student Division advisor by the deadline. You may connect with an advisor in GEB 2.200 or via Zoom and their online live chat.
Every undergraduate is allowed one OTE, whether it is used to withdraw from all classes or drop one class. An OTE drop counts as one of your six Q-drops. Once you’ve used it, you cannot use it again.

Who is my advisor?
There are five economics major advisors and over 2,000 Economics majors. We don’t have assigned caseloads and we don’t require advising (unless you are below a 2.0 GPA). You are welcome to schedule with the same advisor you have met with before, or with whichever advisor best fits your schedule! Our records system allows us to review notes from your previous advising sessions, to assure continuity for you, regardless of which advisor you met with previously. Meet our advising team below!
